  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message UPS1013 - A lock has been set in subplan &1 (&2), planning session &3 (&4) ?

The SAP error message UPS1013 indicates that a lock has been set in a specific subplan during a planning session. This typically occurs in the context of SAP Integrated Business Planning (IBP) or SAP Advanced Planning and Optimization (APO) when multiple users or processes attempt to access or modify the same planning data simultaneously.

    Cause:

    1. Concurrent Access: The most common cause of this error is that another user or process is currently working on the same planning session or subplan, which leads to a lock being placed on the data.
    2. Long-Running Processes: If a planning session is taking a long time to complete, it may hold the lock longer than expected, preventing other users from accessing the same data.
    3. System Configuration: Sometimes, system settings or configurations can lead to unexpected locking behavior.

    Solution:

    1. Wait and Retry: If the lock is due to another user, the simplest solution is to wait for the other user to finish their work and then try again.
    2. Check Active Sessions: Use transaction codes like /SAPAPO/SDP94 or /SAPAPO/SDP93 to check for active planning sessions and see if another user is currently using the same subplan.
    3. Contact the User: If you identify the user who is holding the lock, you can contact them to see if they can finish their session or release the lock.
    4. System Administration: If the lock persists and you cannot identify the user, you may need to involve your SAP Basis team to investigate and potentially release the lock manually.
    5. Review Lock Settings: If this issue occurs frequently, it may be worth reviewing the locking mechanisms and settings in your SAP system to optimize performance and reduce locking conflicts.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes for monitoring and managing planning sessions, such as /SAPAPO/SDP94 for planning book and /SAPAPO/SDP93 for planning area.
    • SAP Notes: Check SAP Notes for any known issues or patches related to locking behavior in your specific version of SAP.
    • Documentation: Review SAP documentation on planning sessions and locking mechanisms to better understand how to manage concurrent access in your environment.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the UPS1013 error and minimize its occurrence in the future.
