Message type: E = Error
Message class: UMG - Message Class for the Unicode Migration Tool.
Message number: 398
Message text: Table TCPDB contains EBCDIC code pages.
An EBCDIC code page was found in table TCPDB which is not supported for
the Unicode conversion.
In order to ensure the correct conversion procedure, SPUMG reads the
table TCPDB to determine the system type (Single Codepage System,
Blended Codepage System or MDMP System). In non Unicode systems it is
essential that table TCPDB contains all codepages which are used in the
system. For Unicode conversions EBCDIC code pages are not supported.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.
Please check with report RSCPINST that the system is configured
properly.

- Table TCPDB contains EBCDIC code pages. ?The SAP error message UMG398 indicates that the table TCPDB contains EBCDIC code pages, which is typically related to issues with character encoding in the SAP system. This error can occur when the system is trying to process data that is not compatible with the expected character set.
Cause:
- EBCDIC Code Pages: The error arises because the TCPDB table, which is used to define code pages for character encoding, contains entries that are in EBCDIC format. EBCDIC (Extended Binary Coded Decimal Interchange Code) is a character encoding system used primarily on IBM mainframe systems, and it is not compatible with ASCII or Unicode formats commonly used in modern systems.
- Data Migration or Integration Issues: If data has been migrated from an EBCDIC-based system to an SAP system, or if there are integrations with systems that use EBCDIC, this can lead to inconsistencies in character encoding.
Solution:
- Check TCPDB Table: Review the entries in the TCPDB table to identify any EBCDIC code pages. You can do this by executing a SQL query or using transaction SE11 (Data Dictionary) to view the table.
- Update Code Pages: If you find EBCDIC code pages, you may need to update them to use compatible code pages (like ASCII or Unicode). This may involve:
- Changing the code page settings in the SAP system.
- Ensuring that any data being imported or processed is in the correct format.
- Data Conversion: If you are migrating data from an EBCDIC system, consider using data conversion tools or scripts to convert the data to a compatible format before importing it into SAP.
- Consult SAP Notes: Check the SAP Support Portal for any relevant SAP Notes that may provide additional guidance or patches related to this error.
