Message type: E = Error
Message class: UMG - Message Class for the Unicode Migration Tool.
Message number: 388
Message text: User &1 is already maintaining the Reprocess/INDX Log of table &2.
You tried to maintain a Reprocess Log for a table which is already
processed by another user. Therefore a lock was set for the table to
avoid parallel processing of a Reprocess Log of a single table.
No language assignments can be done as long as the lock exists for a
table. Currently only the display of the Reprocess Log is possible.
Wait until other users finished their work for the table. You can take
a look in transaction SM12 to see which user has the lock for a specific
table. In /SM12 use
<NP> Table name: UMGINFO</>
<NP>Lock argument: RL*</>
<NP> User name: <empty></>
to view the locks currently set for the Reprocess Log maintenance.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

UMG388
- User &1 is already maintaining the Reprocess/INDX Log of table &2. ?The SAP error message UMG388 indicates that a user is already maintaining the Reprocess/INDX Log for a specific table. This typically occurs in the context of data processing or data management tasks, particularly when multiple users attempt to access or modify the same log simultaneously.
Cause:
- Concurrent Access: The primary cause of this error is that another user is currently working on the Reprocess/INDX Log for the specified table. SAP restricts concurrent access to prevent data inconsistencies or conflicts.
- Long-running Transactions: If a user has a long-running transaction that is holding the lock on the log, other users will be unable to access it until the first transaction is completed.
- Session Issues: Sometimes, a user may have an open session that is still holding onto the log, even if they are not actively working on it.
Solution:
- Wait and Retry: The simplest solution is to wait for the other user to finish their work. Once they are done, you can try accessing the log again.
- Check Active Sessions: Use transaction codes like
SM50
(Process Overview) orSM66
(Global Process Overview) to check for active sessions and see if another user is indeed working on the log.- Communicate with the User: If you identify the user who is maintaining the log, you can communicate with them to understand their timeline and coordinate access.
- Transaction Termination: If necessary, and if you have the appropriate authorizations, you can terminate the session that is holding the lock. This should be done with caution, as it may lead to data inconsistencies.
- Review System Logs: Check system logs for any additional information that might indicate why the log is locked or if there are any underlying issues.
