  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message UGMD091 - &1 is used at hierarchy edge &2 and cannot be deleted ?

The SAP error message UGMD091 indicates that a specific object (like a characteristic or a node) cannot be deleted because it is currently being used in a hierarchy at a specified edge. This typically occurs in the context of SAP BW (Business Warehouse) or SAP BI (Business Intelligence) when dealing with master data hierarchies.

    Cause:

The error arises when you attempt to delete a characteristic or node that is still referenced in a hierarchy. Hierarchies are structures that define relationships between different nodes, and if a node is part of a hierarchy, it cannot be deleted until it is removed from that hierarchy.

    Solution:

To resolve this error, you need to follow these steps:

    1. Identify the Hierarchy: Determine which hierarchy the object is part of. The error message provides the edge (or level) in the hierarchy where the object is being used.

    2. Remove from Hierarchy:

      • Go to the relevant hierarchy in the SAP system.
      • Locate the object (characteristic or node) that you want to delete.
      • Remove the object from the hierarchy. This may involve editing the hierarchy structure and deleting or detaching the node.
    3. Check for Other Dependencies: Ensure that the object is not being used in any other hierarchies or structures. If it is, you will need to remove it from those as well.

    4. Delete the Object: Once the object is no longer referenced in any hierarchy, you can proceed to delete it.

    5. Rebuild Hierarchies (if necessary): After making changes, you may need to rebuild or refresh the hierarchy to ensure that it reflects the current structure.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: You may use transaction codes like RSH1 (for Hierarchy Maintenance) or RSH2 (for Hierarchy Display) to manage hierarchies in SAP BW.
    • Documentation: Refer to SAP Help documentation for more details on managing hierarchies and characteristics in your specific version of SAP.
    • Testing: After making changes, it’s a good practice to test the hierarchy to ensure that it functions correctly without the deleted object.

If you continue to face issues, consider reaching out to your SAP support team or consulting with an SAP expert for further assistance.
