  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message UD053 - First 14 positions of the name identical to an existing entity type ?

The SAP error message UD053, which states "First 14 positions of the name identical to an existing entity type," typically occurs when you are trying to create a new entity (such as a data element, domain, or other object) in the SAP system, and the name you are using for the new entity is too similar to an existing entity. Specifically, the first 14 characters of the new name match those of an existing entity.

    Cause:

    1. Naming Convention Violation: SAP has specific naming conventions and restrictions to avoid conflicts and ensure uniqueness. The first 14 characters of the name must be unique across the system.
    2. Existing Entity: There is already an entity (like a data element, domain, or table) in the system with a name that shares the same first 14 characters as the one you are trying to create.

    Solution:

    1. Change the Name: Modify the name of the new entity you are trying to create. Ensure that the first 14 characters are unique compared to existing entities in the system.
    2. Check Existing Entities: Before creating a new entity, check the existing entities in the system to see if there are any that have similar names. You can use transaction codes like SE11 (Data Dictionary) or SE80 (Object Navigator) to search for existing objects.
    3. Use a Naming Convention: Adopt a consistent naming convention that helps avoid such conflicts. For example, you might include a prefix or suffix that is unique to your development or project.

    Related Information:

    • SAP Documentation: Refer to the SAP Help Portal or the specific documentation for the module you are working with for more details on naming conventions and entity creation.
    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with transaction codes like SE11 (Data Dictionary), SE80 (Object Navigator), and SE37 (Function Module) to manage and view existing entities.
    • Development Guidelines: Follow SAP's development guidelines and best practices to avoid naming conflicts and ensure smooth development processes.

By ensuring that the names of new entities are unique and following SAP's naming conventions, you can avoid encountering the UD053 error in the future.
