  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message UCI1001 - Cons group and cons unit characteristics cannot be used simultaneously ?

The SAP error message UCI1001 indicates that there is a conflict in the configuration of the characteristics for a consumption group and a consumption unit. This error typically arises in the context of SAP's handling of materials and inventory management, particularly when dealing with characteristics that are defined for both consumption groups and consumption units.

    Cause:

The error occurs when the system detects that both a consumption group and a consumption unit are being used simultaneously in a way that is not allowed. This can happen due to:

    1. Configuration Issues: The characteristics for the consumption group and consumption unit may have been incorrectly set up in the system.
    2. Data Entry Errors: Incorrect data entry when creating or modifying material master records or other related documents.
    3. Incompatible Settings: The settings for the consumption group and consumption unit may be incompatible, leading to the system rejecting the configuration.

    Solution:

To resolve the UCI1001 error, you can take the following steps:

    1. Review Configuration:

      • Check the configuration settings for both the consumption group and consumption unit in the SAP system. Ensure that they are not set to use the same characteristics simultaneously.
      • Navigate to the relevant configuration settings in the SAP IMG (Implementation Guide) and verify the definitions.
    2. Adjust Material Master Data:

      • If the error is related to specific material master records, review the characteristics assigned to those materials. Ensure that they are correctly assigned to either the consumption group or the consumption unit, but not both.
      • You can do this by using transaction codes like MM02 (Change Material) to modify the material master data.
    3. Consult Documentation:

      • Refer to SAP documentation or help files for guidance on the specific characteristics and their allowed configurations. This can provide insights into how to properly set up the consumption group and consumption unit.
    4. Testing:

      • After making the necessary adjustments, test the changes by attempting to perform the action that previously triggered the error. Ensure that the error does not reoccur.
    5. Seek Support:

      • If the issue persists, consider reaching out to your SAP support team or consulting with an SAP expert who can provide more tailored assistance based on your specific system configuration.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes such as MM01 (Create Material), MM02 (Change Material), and MM03 (Display Material) for managing material master data.
    • SAP Notes: Check SAP Notes for any known issues or patches related to this error message. SAP Notes can provide additional context or solutions that may not be immediately apparent.
    • Training and Documentation: Ensure that users involved in data entry and configuration are adequately trained on the implications of consumption groups and units to prevent future occurrences of this error.
