    The settings for global goodwill are inconsistent with regards to the
    treatment of (negative) goodwill. This can have the following causes:
    Ordinary amortization of (negative) goodwill was activated, but the
    start date and/or the life of amortization is missing.
    Periodic reduction of (negative) goodwill was activiated, but the start
    date and/or the life of the reduction is missing.

    System Response

    The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

    How to fix this error?

    Go to Customizing for "Goodwill Global" and specify the start date and
    the life of the amortization or reduction.
