  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message TR771 - Request/task &1 can be changed only by holder &2 ?

The SAP error message TR771 indicates that a transport request or task can only be modified by its holder. This typically occurs in the context of transport management within SAP, where changes to transport requests are restricted to the user who created or owns the request.

    Cause:

    1. Ownership Restriction: The transport request is locked for editing by users other than the one who created it. This is a security feature to prevent unauthorized changes.
    2. User Authorization: The user attempting to modify the request may not have the necessary authorizations to do so.
    3. Transport Request Status: The transport request may be in a status that does not allow changes (e.g., released or completed).

    Solution:

    1. Contact the Holder: If you are not the holder of the transport request, you should contact the user who is the owner (as indicated in the error message) to make the necessary changes.
    2. Change Ownership: If appropriate, the current holder can transfer ownership of the transport request to another user using transaction code SE09 or SE10.
    3. Check Authorizations: Ensure that you have the necessary authorizations to modify transport requests. You may need to consult with your SAP security team.
    4. Review Transport Request Status: Check the status of the transport request. If it is in a status that does not allow changes, you may need to revert it to a modifiable state (if possible) or create a new transport request.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes:
      • SE09: Workbench Organizer
      • SE10: Customizing Organizer
    • Transport Management System (TMS): Understanding how TMS works can help in managing transport requests effectively.
    • User Roles and Authorizations: Familiarize yourself with the roles and authorizations related to transport management to avoid similar issues in the future.

If the issue persists after following these steps, it may be beneficial to consult SAP support or your internal SAP basis team for further assistance.
