  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message TR668 - System change option: &, cannot be upgraded ?

The SAP error message TR668 indicates that a transport request (TR) cannot be upgraded due to the system change option (SCO) settings. This typically occurs when the transport request is associated with a system that has restrictions on changes, such as a production system or a system that is not allowed to be modified.

    Cause:

The primary cause of the TR668 error is that the transport request is linked to a system change option that does not permit upgrades. The system change options are defined in the SAP system and can include settings like:

    • Modifiable: The system allows changes and upgrades.
    • Not Modifiable: The system does not allow changes, often seen in production environments.
    • Customizing: The system allows only certain types of changes.

If a transport request is created in a system with a "Not Modifiable" setting, it cannot be upgraded to another system that also has restrictions.

    Solution:

To resolve the TR668 error, you can consider the following steps:

    1. Check the System Change Option:

      • Use transaction code SE03 (Transport Organizer Tools) to check the system change options for the transport request.
      • Ensure that the transport request is created in a system that allows modifications.
    2. Change the Transport Request:

      • If possible, create a new transport request in a system with a modifiable change option and move the necessary objects there.
    3. Adjust the System Change Option:

      • If you have the necessary authorizations, you can change the system change option for the target system. However, this should be done with caution and typically requires approval from your SAP Basis team or change management.
    4. Consult Documentation:

      • Review SAP documentation or notes related to transport requests and system change options for more detailed guidance.
    5. Contact SAP Support:

      • If the issue persists or if you are unsure about making changes, consider reaching out to SAP support for assistance.

    Related Information:

    • Transport Management System (TMS): Understanding how TMS works can help in managing transport requests effectively.
