  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message TR272 - Category & and delivery class & for table & contradict each other ?

The SAP error message TR272 indicates a conflict between the delivery class and the category of a table in the SAP system. This error typically arises during the transport of table definitions or when trying to activate a table that has been defined with inconsistent settings.

    Cause:

The error occurs when the delivery class and the category of the table are not compatible. In SAP, the delivery class determines how the data in the table is treated during transport and how it can be modified. The categories define the nature of the data and its usage. For example, certain delivery classes are meant for tables that should not be modified in production, while others allow for changes.

    Common Scenarios:

    1. Inconsistent Table Definition: The table might have been defined with a delivery class that does not match its intended use or category.
    2. Transport Issues: If the table was transported from one system to another, the delivery class might not be appropriate for the target system.
    3. Development Errors: Developers might have inadvertently set the wrong delivery class or category during the table creation process.

    Solution:

To resolve the TR272 error, follow these steps:

    1. Check Table Definition:

      • Go to the Data Dictionary (SE11) and check the definition of the table that is causing the error.
      • Verify the delivery class and the category assigned to the table.
    2. Correct Inconsistencies:

      • If you find that the delivery class and category contradict each other, you will need to change one of them to ensure they are compatible.
      • For example, if the delivery class is set to 'A' (Application table) but the category is set to 'C' (Customizing table), you may need to change the delivery class to 'C' or vice versa, depending on the intended use of the table.
    3. Transport Request:

      • If the table is part of a transport request, ensure that the transport request is correctly configured and that the table is included in the appropriate transport.
    4. Re-activate the Table:

      • After making the necessary changes, try to activate the table again. This should resolve the error.
    5. Consult Documentation:

      • Refer to SAP documentation or consult with your SAP Basis or ABAP team for best practices regarding table definitions and transport management.

    Related Information:

    • Delivery Classes: Common delivery classes include:

      • A: Application table (data can be transported).
      • C: Customizing table (data is client-specific).
      • L: Table for system data (not transportable).
    • Table Categories: Categories define how the data is used and can include:

      • Transparent Table: A table that has a one-to-one relationship with a database table.
      • Pool Table: A table that is stored in a database pool.
      • Cluster Table: A table that is stored in a cluster.
    • Transaction Codes: Use transaction codes like SE11 (Data Dictionary), SE09 (Transport Organizer), and SE10 (Transport Organizer) to manage and troubleshoot transport issues.

By following these steps and understanding the underlying concepts, you should be able to resolve the TR272 error effectively.
