TN680
- Lifecycle management processes are locked by process &1 (LM tool &2) ?The SAP error message TN680 indicates that lifecycle management processes are currently locked by a specific process. This typically occurs when a lifecycle management tool (like the Software Update Manager or SUM) is running, and it prevents other processes from being executed simultaneously to avoid conflicts.
Cause:
- Active Process: The most common cause is that a lifecycle management tool (e.g., SUM, SPAM, or SAINT) is currently running and has locked the lifecycle management processes.
- Incomplete Previous Process: If a previous lifecycle management process did not complete successfully, it might still hold a lock.
- System Configuration: Sometimes, system configuration issues or mismanagement of locks can lead to this error.
Solution:
Check Active Processes:
- Use transaction code
SM50
orSM66
to check for any active processes that might be holding the lock. Look for processes related to lifecycle management tools.Wait for Completion:
- If you find an active process, you may need to wait for it to complete. Monitor the process to see if it finishes successfully.
Terminate Stuck Processes:
- If a process is stuck and not completing, you may need to terminate it. You can do this in
SM50
by selecting the process and choosing the option to terminate it. Be cautious with this step, as terminating a process can lead to inconsistencies.Release Locks Manually:
- If you are sure that no processes are running, you can manually release locks. Use transaction
SM12
to check for and delete any locks related to the lifecycle management processes.Check Logs:
- Review the logs of the lifecycle management tool (e.g., SUM logs) to identify any issues that may have caused the lock.
Restart the System:
- In some cases, a system restart may help clear any lingering locks, but this should be done as a last resort and with proper planning.
Related Information:
Always ensure that you have proper backups and a rollback plan before making changes to the system or terminating processes.
