Message text: Key entry for table &1 may only be generic
For technical reasons, you cannot specify the table key of table &V1&
in its full length. Instead you must specify it generically. There are
two possible reasons for this:
Table keys with packed fields or fields of type I can only be specified
up to the first of these key fields.
The key is longer than allowed by the Change and Transport System (120
characters).
RESET N1
Make sure that you only specify the character fields before the first
non-character key field. You must enter the key with a generic ending.
Enter the generic symbol directly after the specified part of the key.
You must enter the generic symbol at the latest in the 120th character
of the key.

TK320
- Key entry for table &1 may only be generic ?The SAP error message TK320 indicates that there is an issue with the key entry for a specific table in the system. This error typically arises when a user attempts to enter a key that is not allowed or is too specific for the context in which it is being used. The message suggests that the key entry must be generic, meaning it should not be too specific or detailed.
Cause:
- Incorrect Key Entry: The user may have entered a key that is too specific for the table in question. For example, if the table expects a generic key (like a wildcard or a broader category), providing a specific key (like a specific item number) will trigger this error.
- Configuration Issues: There may be a configuration issue in the system where the table is set up to accept only generic keys, but the user is trying to enter a specific key.
- Data Integrity Rules: The system may have data integrity rules that enforce the use of generic keys for certain operations or transactions.
Solution:
- Use Generic Keys: Review the key you are trying to enter and ensure that it is a generic key. For example, if the key is supposed to represent a range or category, use a wildcard or a broader identifier.
- Check Documentation: Refer to the SAP documentation or help files related to the specific table you are working with to understand the expected format for key entries.
- Consult with a Functional Consultant: If you are unsure about what constitutes a generic key for the table in question, consult with an SAP functional consultant or a colleague who has experience with the specific module or table.
- Review Configuration: If you have access, review the configuration settings for the table to ensure that it is set up correctly to accept the types of keys you are trying to enter.
