The objects &V3& &V4& &V1& are already being edited by the user &V2&,
to change request locks or the entry in the object directory (TADIR).
Normally, only components of objects are edited.
Before a request lock is applied to a component of an object, a

Smart SAP Assistant

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message TK106 - Object &1 is already being edited by &2 ?

The SAP error message TK106 indicates that a particular object (such as a transport request, task, or other development object) is currently being edited or locked by another user. This is a common issue in environments where multiple users are working on the same objects, especially in development systems.

    Cause:

    The error occurs when:

    • A user attempts to edit or transport an object that is already locked by another user.
    • The object is in a transport request that is currently being processed or edited by someone else.
    • There may be a session or transaction that has not been properly closed, leaving the object in a locked state.

    Solution:

To resolve the TK106 error, you can take the following steps:

    1. Identify the Locking User:

      • Check the user who is currently editing the object. The error message usually provides the user ID of the person who has locked the object.
    2. Contact the User:

      • If possible, reach out to the user who is currently editing the object and ask them to finish their work or release the lock.
    3. Use Transaction SM12:

      • You can use transaction SM12 to view and manage locks in the system. Here, you can see all the locks and the users who hold them.
      • If necessary, you can delete the lock entry (if you have the appropriate authorizations) to release the object. However, this should be done with caution, as it may lead to data inconsistency if the other user is actively working on the object.
    4. Check for Background Jobs:

      • Sometimes, background jobs may hold locks on objects. Check transaction SM37 to see if there are any jobs that might be causing the lock.
    5. Wait and Retry:

      • If the object is being edited by another user, sometimes the best course of action is to wait until they finish their work and then try again.
    6. Review Development Guidelines:

      • Ensure that your team has clear guidelines on how to manage object locks and editing to minimize conflicts in the future.

    Related Information:

    • Lock Management: Understanding how SAP handles locks can help in troubleshooting similar issues. Locks are used to prevent data inconsistencies when multiple users are accessing the same data.
    • Transport Management: Familiarize yourself with the transport management system in SAP, as it plays a crucial role in moving objects between different environments (development, quality assurance, production).
    • User Authorizations: Ensure that users have the appropriate authorizations to edit or release locks on objects.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the TK106 error and continue your work in SAP.
