  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message TK057 - Source client can only be modified in the logon client ?

The SAP error message TK057 indicates that you are trying to modify a source client in a way that is not permitted. Specifically, this error occurs when you attempt to change settings or configurations in a client that is not the logon client (the client you are currently logged into).

    Cause:

The primary cause of this error is that certain operations, such as modifying client-specific settings or configurations, can only be performed in the logon client. This is a security measure to prevent unauthorized changes to client settings from other clients.

    Solution:

To resolve the TK057 error, you can follow these steps:

    1. Log into the Correct Client: Ensure that you are logged into the client that you intend to modify. If you need to make changes to a specific client, log into that client directly.

    2. Use Transaction Codes Appropriately: If you are using transaction codes that require changes to client settings, make sure you are in the correct client context. For example, if you are trying to use transaction SCC4 to change client settings, you must be logged into the client you want to modify.

    3. Check User Authorizations: Ensure that your user account has the necessary authorizations to make changes in the client you are logged into. If you lack the required permissions, you may need to contact your SAP administrator.

    4. Client-Specific Settings: If you are trying to change settings that are client-specific, make sure you are aware of the implications of those changes and that you are authorized to make them.

    5. Consult Documentation: If you are unsure about the changes you are trying to make, consult SAP documentation or your organization's SAP support team for guidance.

    Related Information:

    • Client Concept in SAP: SAP systems are designed with a multi-client architecture, where each client can have its own data and settings. Understanding this concept is crucial for managing clients effectively.
    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes such as SCC4 (Client Administration) and SCCL (Client Copy) to manage clients properly.
    • SAP Notes: Check SAP Notes for any specific updates or patches related to the error message TK057, as there may be additional context or solutions provided by SAP.

If the issue persists after following these steps, consider reaching out to your SAP Basis team or support for further assistance.
