Message text: Observe name ranges: Y,Z for customers, JNC for partners, A..X for SAP
You are editing a text ID which does not have a name which corresponds
to the name range defined by SAP. Text IDs from the SAP standard
version, partner projects, and customer-specific IDs must have separate
name ranges to avoid data loss during release upgrades.
The initial letters Y and Z are reserved for customer text IDs, the
intial letters JNC (N is a digit from 1 to 9, C a letter from A to Z)
for text IDs in partner projects.
The system sends an appropriate message.
If you are working in a customer system, only create text IDs with the
following naming convention:
Initial letter Y or Z
If you are working in a partner project, only create text IDs with the
following naming convention:
Initial letters JNC.
'N' stands for a digit from 1 to 9,
'C' for a letter from A to Z.
If you are working in an SAP development system, only use the letters Y
and Z for temporary test IDs and delete them once the test has been
performed.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

- Observe name ranges: Y,Z for customers, JNC for partners, A..X for SAP ?The SAP error message TD663 indicates that there is an issue with the name ranges used in the system. This error typically arises when there are conflicts or overlaps in the naming conventions for various entities, such as customers and partners. Here’s a breakdown of the cause, potential solutions, and related information:
Cause:
Name Range Conflicts: The error suggests that the name ranges for customers (Y, Z), partners (JNC), and SAP (A..X) are not properly defined or are overlapping. This can happen if:
- Custom name ranges (Y, Z) for customers are not set up correctly.
- The partner name range (JNC) is conflicting with existing entries.
- The standard SAP name range (A..X) is being used incorrectly or is not properly maintained.
Configuration Issues: The configuration settings in the SAP system for customer and partner master data may not be aligned with the defined name ranges.
Data Entry Errors: Incorrect data entry or attempts to create records that fall outside the defined name ranges can trigger this error.
Solution:
Check Name Ranges:
- Go to the relevant configuration settings in SAP (usually found in the IMG under "Customer Master Data" or "Partner Functions") and verify the defined name ranges for customers and partners.
- Ensure that the name ranges for Y, Z, and JNC do not overlap with the standard SAP ranges (A..X).
Adjust Configuration:
- If necessary, adjust the configuration to ensure that the name ranges are correctly defined and do not conflict with each other.
- You may need to consult with your SAP Basis or configuration team to make these changes.
Data Validation:
- Review the data entries for customers and partners to ensure that they fall within the defined name ranges.
- Correct any entries that are outside the allowed ranges.
Testing:
- After making changes, test the creation of customer and partner records to ensure that the error does not reoccur.
