TD316
- Unknown PostScript character name & ?The SAP error message TD316, which states "Unknown PostScript character name &," typically occurs when there is an issue with the PostScript output generated by SAPscript or Smart Forms. This error indicates that the PostScript interpreter encountered a character name that it does not recognize, which can happen for several reasons.
Causes:
- Unsupported Characters: The PostScript output may contain characters that are not supported by the printer or the PostScript interpreter being used.
- Font Issues: The font being used in the SAPscript or Smart Form may not be properly defined or may not be available on the printer.
- Corrupted Output: The output generated may be corrupted or improperly formatted, leading to unrecognized character names.
- Incorrect Configuration: The printer configuration in SAP may not match the capabilities of the physical printer, leading to issues with character rendering.
Solutions:
- Check Fonts: Ensure that the fonts used in the SAPscript or Smart Form are supported by the printer. You may need to switch to a different font that is known to work with your printer.
- Update Printer Configuration: Verify the printer settings in SAP. Make sure that the correct device type is selected and that it matches the capabilities of the physical printer.
- Test with Different Output: Try generating a simple output (like a basic text document) to see if the error persists. This can help isolate whether the issue is with specific content or a broader configuration problem.
- Review PostScript Output: If possible, review the generated PostScript output for any unusual characters or formatting issues that could be causing the error.
- Use Alternative Output Formats: If the issue persists, consider using a different output format (like PDF) instead of PostScript, if your workflow allows for it.
- Consult Documentation: Check SAP documentation or support notes for any known issues related to the specific printer model or SAP version you are using.
