Message text: Overlapping records are deleted or delimited
The table entry which you are processing is only valid between the
"Begin date" and "End date" which it contains. You have specified a
"Begin date" or an "End date" which does not lie in the validity range.
This extends the validity range. It must be ensured that the validity
ranges for entries with the same key do not overlap.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.
If this warning is confirmed, all existing entries for the specified key
whose validity range lies completely inside the new validity range, are
deleted. If there are entries whose validity ranges overlap the new
validity range of the entry being processed, their validity ranges are
limited so that the validity ranges do not overlap.
Confirm the warning with <PF>ENTER</> or cancel the processing
with <LS>Cancel</> or <PF>F12</>.

SV047
- Overlapping records are deleted or delimited ?The SAP error message SV047 ("Overlapping records are deleted or delimited") typically occurs in the context of managing master data records, particularly in modules like SAP HR (Human Resources) or SAP Master Data Governance. This error indicates that there are overlapping time periods for records that should be distinct, such as employment periods for an employee or validity periods for a master data record.
Cause:
The error arises when you attempt to create or modify a record that has a validity period that overlaps with an existing record. For example, if you have two records for the same employee with overlapping start and end dates, SAP will not allow this because it can lead to inconsistencies in data reporting and processing.
Solution:

Identify Overlapping Records:
- Check the existing records for the entity (e.g., employee, material, etc.) to identify which records have overlapping validity periods.
- You can use transaction codes like PA20 (Display HR Master Data) or SE16 (Data Browser) to view the records.
Adjust Validity Periods:
- Modify the validity periods of the records to ensure that they do not overlap. This may involve changing the start or end dates of one or more records.
- If necessary, you can delete or archive old records that are no longer needed.
Use Delimitation:
- If you need to keep the existing records but want to create a new record, consider delimiting the existing record first. This involves setting an end date for the existing record before creating a new one.
Consult Documentation:
- Review SAP documentation or help files related to the specific module you are working with for additional guidance on managing overlapping records.
Check for Custom Logic:
- If your organization has custom enhancements or logic in place, ensure that these are not causing the issue. You may need to consult with your SAP technical team.
