SS802
- Text is & characters too long (text in [ ] is not counted) ?The SAP error message SS802 indicates that a text string exceeds the maximum allowed length for a specific field or object in the SAP system. This error typically occurs when you are trying to enter or save a text that is longer than the defined limit for that particular field.
Cause:
Text Length Exceeded: The primary cause of this error is that the text you are trying to input exceeds the maximum character limit set for that field. Field Definition: Different fields in SAP have different maximum lengths defined in their data dictionary. If you are trying to enter a description, note, or any other text in a field that has a character limit, exceeding that limit will trigger this error.
Solution:
Check Field Length: Review the field definition in the SAP data dictionary (transaction SE11) to determine the maximum allowed length for the text field you are working with.
Shorten the Text: Modify the text you are trying to enter to ensure it does not exceed the maximum length. This may involve:
- Abbreviating words.
- Removing unnecessary details.
- Summarizing the content.
Use Additional Fields: If the information is essential and cannot be shortened, consider using additional fields or notes sections if available, or splitting the information across multiple entries if applicable.
Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or help resources for specific guidelines on text lengths for the particular module or transaction you are working with.
Custom Development: If the text length limitation is a significant issue for your business processes, consider discussing with your SAP development team about the possibility of customizing the field length, if feasible.
