SMMSS_ALERTS058
- Autogrowth is &1 ?The SAP error message SMMSS_ALERTS058 indicates that the autogrowth of a database has reached a specified limit, which is denoted by the placeholder
&1
. This typically occurs in the context of database management within SAP systems, particularly when the database is configured to automatically increase its size to accommodate more data.Cause:
The error is triggered when the database has reached its maximum size limit or when the autogrowth settings are not configured properly. This can happen due to:
- Database Size Limit: The database has reached its maximum allowable size as defined by the database management system (DBMS).
- Autogrowth Settings: The autogrowth feature may be disabled, or the growth increment may be set too low to accommodate the data being added.
- Disk Space: The underlying storage may be running out of space, preventing the database from growing.
- Configuration Issues: There may be misconfigurations in the database settings that prevent proper autogrowth.
Solution:
To resolve the SMMSS_ALERTS058 error, consider the following steps:
Check Database Size:
- Verify the current size of the database and compare it with the maximum size limit set in the DBMS.
- If the database is at its limit, you may need to increase the maximum size limit if your DBMS allows it.
Review Autogrowth Settings:
- Check the autogrowth settings for the database. Ensure that autogrowth is enabled and that the growth increment is set to a reasonable value.
- For example, in SQL Server, you can set the autogrowth to increase by a percentage or a fixed size (e.g., MB).
Free Up Space:
- If the underlying storage is full, consider freeing up space by archiving old data or deleting unnecessary data.
- You may also need to add more disk space to the server where the database is hosted.
Database Maintenance:
- Perform regular database maintenance tasks such as index rebuilding, updating statistics, and cleaning up logs to optimize space usage.
Monitor Database Growth:
- Implement monitoring tools to keep track of database growth and set alerts for when the database approaches its limits.
Consult Documentation:
- Refer to the documentation for your specific DBMS for detailed instructions on managing database size and autogrowth settings.
