Message type: E = Error
Message class: SL - System log
Message number: 240
Message text: When changing texts, consider translation and compatibility
Translation problems can occur when the message text is changed, or
compatibility with older kernel versions can be particularly affected
when parameters are changed.
Since the system log uses special formats such as <(>&<)>1 or <(>&<)>>,
the relevance of the parameter changes is not always clear to
translators.
A change to the parameter lengths is not compatible.
The kernel writes the old lengths but the new lengths are used in ABAP.
Or conversely, a kernel that writes the new lengths is active, although
the customer's database still contains old message texts. In both cases,
the system may read beyond the parameter limits.
In the case of changes to the semantics, the original text and the
obsolete translations could have different meanings.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.
Message texts should only be changed for spelling corrections.
Otherwise we recommend that you use new message numbers.
