What causes this issue?

You are in expert mode and have entered formula symbols through the
pushbuttons.
For this purpose, the cursor must be positioned in the Formula Builder
at a position where the formula characters are to appear.

System Response

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.
