The SAP error message SFB502 ("Insertion possible only in or above the highlighted line") typically occurs in the context of maintaining or editing data in a table or list where the system restricts the insertion of new entries to a specific area. This is often seen in transaction codes that involve lists, such as creating or modifying entries in a table or a report.

    Cause:

The error is triggered when a user attempts to insert a new entry below a certain line in a list or table where the system does not allow it. This restriction is usually in place to maintain data integrity or to ensure that new entries are added in a logical sequence.

    Solution:

To resolve this error, you can follow these steps:

    1. Identify the Highlighted Line: Look at the highlighted line in the list or table. This line indicates the point above which you can insert new entries.

    2. Insert Above the Highlighted Line: Ensure that you are trying to insert your new entry above the highlighted line. You can do this by selecting the appropriate line or position in the list where insertion is allowed.

    3. Check for Restrictions: If you are unsure why the insertion is restricted, check the documentation or settings related to the specific transaction or table you are working with. There may be specific rules or configurations that dictate where entries can be added.

    4. Consult with a SAP Administrator: If you continue to face issues or if the restriction seems inappropriate, consult with your SAP administrator or support team. They may need to review the configuration or permissions related to the transaction.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: This error can occur in various transaction codes, especially those involving lists or tables (e.g., SE11 for Data Dictionary, SE80 for Object Navigator).
    • User Permissions: Sometimes, user roles and permissions can affect the ability to insert data. Ensure that you have the necessary permissions to make changes.
    • SAP Notes: Check SAP Notes for any known issues or updates related to the specific transaction or module you are working with. SAP frequently releases notes that address bugs or provide guidance on error messages.
