Negative words
In SAPfind negative words or stop words are those words in a language
that are not of assistance in locating a specific text because they
occur in most texts. Such words normally have a general meaning and do
not contribute to an understanding of the subject matter of a text.
Examples of negative words are:
articles
pronouns
prepositions
auxiliary verbs
To save storage space, negative words are not included in the index
file. As a result they cannot be used when searching via the index
file. SAPfind does not accept them in search expressions.
To ensure that the results of both search processes, sequential search
and search via the index file, are identical, SAPfind forbids the use
of negative words in search expressions.
