  • What causes this issue?

This node reports the number of alerts in table ALALRTGUID. The alerts
for those monitoring nodes that are assigned the auto-reaction method
of sending alerts to the central Alert Framework are stored in this
table. In the context of this auto-reaction method (function module
SALO_SEND_ALERTS_TO_ALM), sent alerts are stored in table ALALERTGUID
to allow communication between the CCMS and the Alert Framework.

    Procedure for System Administrators

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

The ALALRTGUID table is automatically reorganized at regular intervals.
The automatic reorganization is assigned to this node as an
auto-reaction method, and the manual reorganization is assigned as the
    analysis method.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message RT697 - CCMS self-monitoring: Number of alerts in table ALALRTGUID ?

The SAP error message RT697 related to CCMS (Computing Center Management System) self-monitoring indicates that the number of alerts in the table ALALRTGUID has exceeded a predefined threshold. This can lead to performance issues or hinder the monitoring capabilities of the system.

    Cause:

    1. Excessive Alerts: The primary cause of this error is that there are too many alerts generated and stored in the ALALRTGUID table. This can happen due to:

      • Frequent or ongoing issues in the monitored systems.
      • Misconfigured monitoring settings that generate excessive alerts.
      • Accumulation of alerts over time without proper management or resolution.
    2. Threshold Exceeded: The system has a limit on the number of alerts it can handle effectively. When this limit is exceeded, the error message is triggered.

    Solution:

    1. Review and Resolve Alerts:

      • Check the current alerts in the ALALRTGUID table. Identify and resolve the underlying issues that are causing these alerts.
      • Use transaction codes like AL08 or AL11 to monitor alerts and their statuses.
    2. Delete Old Alerts:

      • If there are old alerts that are no longer relevant, consider deleting them to free up space in the ALALRTGUID table. This can be done using the appropriate SAP transactions or programs designed for alert management.
    3. Adjust Monitoring Settings:

      • Review the configuration of your CCMS monitoring settings. Adjust thresholds and parameters to reduce the number of alerts generated.
      • Consider consolidating alerts or modifying the alerting criteria to avoid excessive notifications.
    4. Increase Alert Table Capacity:

      • If necessary, consult with your SAP Basis team to see if the capacity for alerts can be increased, although this is typically a temporary solution and not a best practice.
    5. Regular Maintenance:

      • Implement a regular maintenance schedule to review and clean up alerts. This can help prevent the issue from recurring.

    Related Information:

    • Monitoring Tools: Familiarize yourself with SAP monitoring tools and transactions such as CCMS, ST22 (dump analysis), SM21 (system log), and others that can help in diagnosing issues.
    • SAP Notes: Check for any relevant SAP Notes that may provide additional guidance or patches related to alert management and CCMS monitoring.
