Message type: E = Error
Message class: RT - Monitoring infrastructure MSG and alert texts
Message number: 127
Message text: &1 &3 > &2 &3 Dialog response time exceeds threshold (&4 dialog steps)
This monitoring tree element (MTE) reports the response time for the
dialog service. This is the service for interactive processing, as
opposed to the background or the update service.
The dialog response time is the processing time in the SAP application
server. It includes all processing time consumed for the processing of
a dialog step (starting with a user action and ending with the system's
response to the action), including database processing time. It does
not include network transmission time or front-end processing time. The
values that you see here are averaged across dialog steps.
You may see small variations in the statistics reported here as compared
to those reported in the analysis method associated with this MTE. This
variation is due to the finer granularity of the statistics in the
analysis method. The averaging of the values in the alert monitor can
result in small differences in values.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.
An alert here indicates a performance problem with your system. Your
users are not receiving the prompt response from the system, as
reflected in the thresholds for response time.
High response times are a general symptom of performance problems. There
can be many different causes of the problem; a careful analysis is
therefore required. You should first check that the application server
is not overloaded, as measured for example by CPU performance, system
paging and dialog work process statistics. Another possible bottleneck
is the database; you should check that the database is performing
satisfactorily.

RT127
- &1 &3 > &2 &3 Dialog response time exceeds threshold (&4 dialog steps) ?The SAP error message RT127 indicates that the dialog response time for a transaction has exceeded a predefined threshold. This can occur when a user is waiting for a response from the SAP system, and the time taken for the system to process the request exceeds acceptable limits. The message typically includes parameters that provide additional context, such as the transaction code, the user, and the number of dialog steps involved.
Causes:
- System Performance Issues: High CPU usage, memory bottlenecks, or disk I/O issues can slow down the processing of dialog requests.
- Network Latency: Slow network connections between the client and the SAP server can lead to increased response times.
- Long-running Transactions: Some transactions may inherently take longer to process due to complex logic or large data volumes.
- Database Performance: Slow database queries or locks can delay the response time for dialog steps.
- Configuration Issues: Incorrectly configured parameters in the SAP system can lead to performance degradation.
Solutions:
- Performance Monitoring: Use transaction codes like ST03N (Workload Analysis) and ST02 (Tune Summary) to monitor system performance and identify bottlenecks.
- Analyze Long-running Transactions: Identify and optimize long-running transactions. This may involve reviewing the code, optimizing database queries, or adjusting the logic.
- Check System Resources: Ensure that the SAP application server has adequate CPU, memory, and disk resources. Consider scaling up resources if necessary.
- Network Optimization: Check the network connection between the client and server. Ensure that there are no issues with bandwidth or latency.
- Database Tuning: Optimize database performance by analyzing slow queries, adding indexes, or adjusting database parameters.
- Adjust Thresholds: If the threshold for dialog response time is too strict for your environment, consider adjusting it in the SAP system configuration. However, this should be done with caution and only after thorough analysis.
