How To Fix RT035 - CPU Utilization: &1 &3 > &2 &3 15 min. avg. value over threshold value

SAP Error Message - Details

  • Message type: E = Error

  • Message class: RT - Monitoring infrastructure MSG and alert texts

  • Message number: 035

  • Message text: CPU Utilization: &1 &3 > &2 &3 15 min. avg. value over threshold value

  • Show details Hide details
  • What causes this issue?

The CPU statistics are important in order to maintain a smooth system
performance. In this case, the average value for the CPU load in the
last 15 minutes exceeds the applicable threshold value.

    System Response

    System performance is restricted.

    How to fix this error?

For detailed information about the CPU load, select the node and choose
"Start Analysis Method". Check the following performance factors:
Which processes are causing the load?
Check if all other processes with high CPU loads (<ZH>memlog</>,
    <ZH>r3trans</>, <ZH>nwengine</>, <ZH>brbackup</>...) are necessary.
If high values are displayed for the CPUtime, the process could be in a
    loop.
The resident size of a SAP work process should, depending on the size of
the <ZH>ztta/roll_area</>, be around 9#12 MB.
You can also display SAP work processes with a high CPU load using the
process overview (Transaktion SM50). The SAP process overview displays
the ABAP program that is using the CPU.

Smart SAP Assistant

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message RT035 - CPU Utilization: &1 &3 > &2 &3 15 min. avg. value over threshold value ?

The SAP error message RT035 indicates that the CPU utilization of an SAP system has exceeded a specified threshold. This message is typically generated by the SAP system monitoring tools, such as CCMS (Computing Center Management System), and is used to alert administrators about potential performance issues.

    Cause:

The error message RT035 is triggered when the average CPU utilization over the last 15 minutes exceeds the defined threshold. This can be caused by several factors, including:

    1. High Workload: Increased user activity or batch jobs running concurrently can lead to high CPU usage.
    2. Inefficient Code: Poorly optimized ABAP programs or inefficient SQL queries can consume excessive CPU resources.
    3. Background Jobs: A large number of background jobs running simultaneously can spike CPU usage.
    4. System Configuration: Inadequate hardware resources or misconfigured system parameters can lead to high CPU utilization.
    5. External Factors: Other applications or processes running on the same server may also contribute to high CPU usage.

    Solution:

To address the RT035 error, consider the following steps:

    1. Monitor System Performance: Use transaction codes like ST03N (Workload Analysis) and ST06 (Operating System Monitor) to analyze CPU usage and identify the processes consuming the most resources.

    2. Optimize ABAP Programs: Review and optimize any custom ABAP programs or reports that may be causing high CPU usage. Use transaction SE30 (Runtime Analysis) or SAT (ABAP Trace) to analyze performance.

    3. Review Background Jobs: Check for any long-running or resource-intensive background jobs using transaction SM37 (Job Monitoring). Consider rescheduling jobs to off-peak hours.

    4. Adjust System Parameters: Review and adjust system parameters related to CPU utilization, such as the number of work processes or the configuration of the instance profile.

    5. Hardware Upgrade: If the system consistently runs at high CPU utilization, consider upgrading the hardware (CPU, RAM) or scaling out by adding additional application servers.

    6. Load Balancing: If applicable, distribute the workload across multiple application servers to balance CPU usage.

    7. Check for External Processes: Ensure that no other applications or processes on the server are consuming excessive CPU resources.

    Related Information:

    • SAP Notes: Check SAP Notes related to performance tuning and CPU utilization for specific recommendations and best practices.
    • SAP Community: Engage with the SAP Community for insights and experiences from other users who may have faced similar issues.
    • Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation for guidelines on system performance monitoring and optimization.

By following these steps, you can effectively address the RT035 error and improve the overall performance of your SAP system.
