  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message RSTRAN_DB020 - The transformations of the path are incompatible ?

The SAP error message RSTRAN_DB020 indicates that there is an incompatibility in the transformations of the data path in the context of data extraction or data transfer processes, particularly when dealing with SAP BW (Business Warehouse) or SAP HANA.

    Cause:

The error typically arises due to one or more of the following reasons:

    1. Incompatible Data Structures: The data structures of the source and target InfoObjects or InfoProviders may not match. This can happen if there have been changes in the data model, such as changes in the fields, data types, or the structure of the InfoObjects.

    2. Transformation Rules: The transformation rules defined for the data transfer may not be compatible with the source or target data structures. This can occur if the transformation logic has not been updated to reflect changes in the data model.

    3. Data Source Changes: If the underlying data source has been modified (e.g., fields added, removed, or changed), the existing transformations may no longer be valid.

    4. Version Mismatch: There may be a version mismatch between the source and target systems, especially if you are working with different versions of SAP BW or SAP HANA.

    Solution:

To resolve the RSTRAN_DB020 error, you can follow these steps:

    1. Check Transformation Settings:

      • Go to the transformation that is causing the error and review the mapping between the source and target fields.
      • Ensure that all fields are correctly mapped and that the data types are compatible.
    2. Update Transformations:

      • If there have been changes to the source or target data structures, update the transformation rules accordingly.
      • You may need to recreate the transformation if it is significantly out of sync with the data model.
    3. Validate Data Sources:

      • Check the data source for any changes that may have occurred. Ensure that the data source is still valid and that the fields expected in the transformation are present.
    4. Test the Transformation:

      • After making the necessary adjustments, test the transformation to ensure that it works correctly without errors.
    5. Check for Version Compatibility:

      • If you are working in a landscape with multiple SAP systems, ensure that the versions of the systems are compatible and that any necessary updates have been applied.
    6. Consult Documentation:

      • Refer to SAP documentation or notes related to the specific version of SAP BW or HANA you are using for any known issues or additional troubleshooting steps.
