- Characteristic settings are incompatible with locked cells ?The SAP error message RSPLS_CR053 indicates that there is a conflict between the characteristic settings in a planning model and the locked cells in the planning environment. This typically occurs in SAP BW (Business Warehouse) or SAP Analytics Cloud when working with planning functions or planning sequences.
Cause:
The error arises when:
- Incompatible Characteristics: The characteristics defined in the planning function or planning model do not match the characteristics of the locked cells. For example, if a characteristic is set to be editable in the planning function but is locked in the data model, this conflict will trigger the error.
- Locked Cells: Cells in the planning environment may be locked due to previous planning activities, which prevents any changes to those cells. If the planning function attempts to modify these locked cells, the error will occur.

Review Planning Function: Check the planning function or planning sequence that is causing the error. Ensure that the characteristics used in the function are compatible with the characteristics of the locked cells.
Unlock Cells: If possible, unlock the cells that are causing the conflict. This can be done by:
- Navigating to the planning environment and identifying the locked cells.
- Using the appropriate transaction or function to unlock those cells.
Adjust Characteristic Settings: Modify the characteristic settings in the planning function to ensure they align with the locked cells. This may involve:
- Changing the characteristics in the planning function to match those that are editable.
- Ensuring that the characteristics are not set to be locked in the data model.
Check Data Model Configuration: Review the configuration of the data model to ensure that it is set up correctly. This includes checking the settings for the InfoProvider and ensuring that the characteristics are defined correctly.
Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or support notes related to planning functions and locked cells for additional guidance and best practices.
