Message text: Derived characteristic overwritten again
In the characteristic relationships for InfoCube '&V1&', relationships
of type 'Derivation' have been maintained. In the previous data record,
a value was derived for at least one characteristic and then overwritten
again by another value in step '&V2&'.
Characteristic relationships are maintained inconsistently. The system
cannot perform characteristic derivation.
Maintain characteristic relationships so that the same value is always
produced, even when a characteristic value is dervied more than once.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

- Derived characteristic overwritten again ?The SAP error message RSPLS_CR015, which states "Derived characteristic overwritten again," typically occurs in the context of SAP BW (Business Warehouse) when there are issues related to the handling of derived characteristics in queries or InfoProviders. This error indicates that a derived characteristic is being overwritten, which can lead to inconsistencies in the data being reported.
Cause:
- Multiple Definitions: The derived characteristic may be defined in multiple places, leading to conflicts when the system tries to resolve which definition to use.
- Incorrect Query Design: The query may be designed in such a way that it attempts to overwrite the derived characteristic with conflicting values.
- Data Source Issues: There may be issues with the underlying data sources or InfoProviders that are feeding into the query, causing the derived characteristic to be incorrectly populated.
- Transformation Logic: If there are transformations or routines that manipulate the data, they may inadvertently cause the derived characteristic to be overwritten.
Solution:
- Check Query Design: Review the query design in the BEx Query Designer. Ensure that the derived characteristic is not being defined or calculated in multiple places.
- Review InfoProvider: Check the InfoProvider (e.g., InfoCube, DSO) to ensure that the derived characteristic is correctly defined and that there are no conflicting definitions.
- Examine Transformations: If there are transformations involved, review the logic to ensure that they are not causing the derived characteristic to be overwritten.
- Data Source Validation: Validate the data sources to ensure that they are providing consistent and correct data for the derived characteristic.
- Check for Updates: Ensure that you are using the latest version of SAP BW, as updates may contain fixes for known issues related to derived characteristics.
