Message text: Could not determine a package for new objects. See long text
There are new (local) objects that have to be transported. A
transportable package must be assigned to these objects.
The package is determined using the user parameter DVC. If this
parameter is empty, the package of the other objects to be transported
is used, if this package is unique.
The objects cannot be written to requests.
Set the parameter DVC to a transportable package, for the user who is
permitted to write to requests (<DS:TRAN.SU01>transaction SU01</> >
Parameter tab) This package is now used for new objects.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

- Could not determine a package for new objects. See long text ?The SAP error message RSO684, which states "Could not determine a package for new objects," typically occurs in the context of creating or modifying objects in the SAP BW (Business Warehouse) environment. This error indicates that the system is unable to identify a package for the new objects being created, which is necessary for organizing and managing development objects in SAP.
Cause:
- Missing Package Assignment: The most common cause of this error is that the new object being created does not have an associated package. In SAP, every development object must belong to a package, which helps in organizing and transporting objects.
- Transport Request Issues: If there are issues with the transport request or if the user does not have the necessary authorizations to create objects in a specific package, this error may occur.
- Development Class Not Specified: If the development class (package) is not specified during the creation of the object, the system cannot determine where to store it.
Solution:
- Assign a Package: When creating a new object, ensure that you assign it to an appropriate package. You can do this by selecting a package from the package selection dialog or by entering the package name directly.
- Use the Local Object: If you do not want to assign the object to a package, you can choose to create it as a local object (using the
"$TMP"
package). However, keep in mind that local objects are not transportable.- Check Authorizations: Ensure that you have the necessary authorizations to create objects in the specified package. If you do not have the required permissions, contact your SAP administrator to grant you the necessary access.
- Review Transport Requests: If you are working in a development environment, ensure that there are no issues with the transport requests. You may need to create a new transport request if the current one is locked or has issues.
