The SAP error message RSM2027, which states "Do not update data in source system immediately," typically occurs in the context of data extraction processes, particularly when using SAP's Data Warehousing solutions like SAP BW (Business Warehouse) or SAP BW/4HANA. This error is related to the data extraction process from the source system to the target system (like BW) and indicates that there is a restriction on updating data in the source system during the extraction process.

    Cause:

    1. Data Locking: The error often arises when there are ongoing data extraction processes that lock the data in the source system. This is to ensure data consistency and integrity during the extraction.
    2. Data Transfer Process (DTP) Issues: If a Data Transfer Process is running or has failed, it may prevent updates to the source system.
    3. Process Chains: If a process chain is running that involves data extraction, it may also lead to this error.
    4. Configuration Settings: Certain settings in the source system or in the BW system may restrict updates during data extraction.

    Solution:

    1. Check Running Processes: Verify if there are any active data extraction processes or process chains that are currently running. You can do this by checking the process chain logs or monitoring the data extraction jobs.
    2. Wait for Completion: If there are ongoing processes, wait for them to complete before attempting to update the data in the source system.
    3. Review DTP Settings: Check the settings of the Data Transfer Process to ensure that it is configured correctly and is not causing the lock.
    4. Error Handling: If a process has failed, resolve the issue causing the failure and restart the process.
    5. Consult Logs: Review the logs for any additional error messages or warnings that may provide more context on the issue.
    6. System Configuration: Ensure that the configuration settings in both the source and target systems allow for the necessary updates and data transfers.
