  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message RSM1523 - Cannot update request & in data target ?

The SAP error message RSM1523, which states "Cannot update request & in data target," typically occurs during the data loading process in SAP BW (Business Warehouse) when there is an issue with updating a data request in a data target (like an InfoCube or DataStore Object). Here are some common causes, solutions, and related information for this error:

    Causes:

    1. Data Target Locking: The data target may be locked by another process or user, preventing the update of the request.
    2. Data Consistency Issues: There may be inconsistencies in the data being loaded, such as missing or invalid data.
    3. Request Status: The request may be in a status that does not allow updates (e.g., it might be marked as "failed" or "cancelled").
    4. Data Target Configuration: There may be configuration issues with the data target itself, such as incorrect settings or missing authorizations.
    5. Transport Issues: If the data is being transported from one system to another, there may be issues with the transport process.

    Solutions:

    1. Check Locks: Use transaction code SM12 to check for locks on the data target. If there are locks, you may need to wait for the other process to complete or manually remove the lock if appropriate.
    2. Review Request Status: Check the status of the request in the InfoProvider. If it is in an error state, you may need to delete or correct the request before attempting to load data again.
    3. Data Validation: Validate the data being loaded to ensure there are no inconsistencies or errors. You can use transaction RSA1 to check the data source and perform data checks.
    4. Check Authorizations: Ensure that the user executing the data load has the necessary authorizations to update the data target.
    5. Reprocess the Request: If the request has failed, you can try to reprocess it. In the Data Warehousing Workbench, you can find the request and attempt to reprocess it.
    6. Check for Transport Issues: If the issue is related to a transport, ensure that all necessary objects have been transported correctly and that there are no missing dependencies.
