Message type: E = Error
Message class: RSDS - New DataSource
Message number: 114
Message text: &1: Only internal format can be selected if character PSA
If the data is stored in the PSA in character format, only those fields
that exist in internal format in the source can be released for the
selection in the InfoPackage.
The reason for this is that the selections are evaluated in internal
format before they are saved in the PSA. If the data exists in external
format and is written to the PSA, the data will most probably not be
recognized.
The function continues but a selection of the field &V1& in the
InfoPackage returns incorrect results.
Do not release the field for selection, or select the <LS>internal
format<ZH> </></>for this field, or deselect <LS>Character PSA</>.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

RSDS114
- &1: Only internal format can be selected if character PSA ?The SAP error message RSDS114 typically occurs in the context of DataSource extraction, particularly when dealing with the Persistent Staging Area (PSA) in SAP BW (Business Warehouse). The message indicates that there is an issue with the format selection for a DataSource that is defined as a character-based PSA.
Cause:
The error message RSDS114 is triggered when you attempt to select a format for a DataSource that is not compatible with the character-based PSA. In SAP BW, the PSA can be configured to store data in different formats, and if a DataSource is set to use a character-based format, only internal formats can be selected for processing.
Solution:
To resolve this error, you can take the following steps:
Check DataSource Configuration:
- Go to the DataSource in the SAP BW system and check its configuration.
- Ensure that the DataSource is correctly set up to use the appropriate format. If it is a character-based PSA, you should not attempt to select an incompatible format.
Adjust Format Selection:
- If you are trying to select a format that is not compatible with the character-based PSA, change your selection to an internal format that is compatible.
- This may involve modifying the extraction process or the transformation rules to ensure that the data is processed correctly.
Review Data Transfer Process (DTP):
- Check the Data Transfer Process (DTP) associated with the DataSource. Ensure that the DTP settings align with the DataSource's configuration.
- If necessary, create a new DTP that is compatible with the character-based PSA.
Consult Documentation:
- Review SAP documentation or notes related to the specific DataSource and PSA configuration for additional guidance on compatible formats.
Testing:
- After making the necessary adjustments, test the extraction process again to ensure that the error is resolved.
