The SAP error message RSDA505: No archiving connection specified typically occurs in the context of data archiving processes within SAP systems, particularly when using the Data Archiving (DA) functionality. This error indicates that the system is unable to find a valid archiving connection, which is necessary for the archiving process to function correctly.

    Cause:

    1. Missing Archiving Connection: The most common cause of this error is that the archiving connection has not been defined in the system. This connection is required for the system to know where to store the archived data.
    2. Configuration Issues: There may be issues with the configuration of the archiving object or the archiving settings in the system.
    3. Authorization Issues: The user executing the archiving process may not have the necessary authorizations to access the archiving connection.

To resolve the RSDA505 error, you can follow these steps:

    1. Define Archiving Connection:

      • Go to transaction code SARA (Data Archiving).
      • Select the relevant archiving object.

      • If no connection is defined, create a new archiving connection by specifying the necessary parameters (e.g., file system, database, etc.).
    2. Check Configuration:

      • Ensure that the archiving object is correctly configured. This includes checking the settings for the archiving file path, storage type, and any other relevant parameters.
    3. User Authorizations:

      • Verify that the user executing the archiving process has the necessary authorizations to access the archiving connection. This may involve checking roles and authorizations in transaction PFCG.
    4. Transport Check:

      • If the archiving connection was transported, ensure that all necessary configuration settings were included in the transport request. You may need to manually configure the connection in the target system.
