  • Message number: 513

  • Message text: Suggest delta indexes for certain indexes ('&1')

  • Show details Hide details
  • Description
It is useful to create a delta index for large indexes that are often
updated with new data. New data is not written to the main index, but to
the delta index. This can significantly improve the performance of
indexing, since the "OPTIMIZE" step must only be executed on the smaller
amount of data from the delta index. The data from the delta index is
used at the runtime for the query.
The system determines the proposals from the statistics data: proposals
are indexes that received new data more than ten times during the last
ten days. A prerequisite for these proposals is that the statistics for
    the InfoCube are switched on.
A "MERGE" should be executed for data in the main index and delta index
at regular intervals (see test "Size of Delta Index").
    Repair
In repair mode, the system sets the <ZK>Has Delta Index</> property for
the proposed indexes. The delta index is created when the data is next
    loaded for this index.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message RSD_TREX513 - Suggest delta indexes for certain indexes ('&1') ?

The SAP error message RSD_TREX513 indicates that the system is suggesting the creation of delta indexes for certain indexes. This typically occurs in the context of SAP BW (Business Warehouse) when working with InfoProviders that are based on the SAP HANA database or when using the TREX search engine.

    Cause:

The error message is triggered when the system detects that certain indexes are not optimized for delta processing. Delta indexes are used to improve the performance of data retrieval operations by allowing the system to quickly access only the changes (deltas) made since the last data load, rather than scanning the entire dataset.

    Solution:

To resolve this issue, you can take the following steps:

    1. Create Delta Indexes:

      • Go to the relevant InfoProvider in the SAP BW system.
      • Check the settings for the indexes that are suggested in the error message.
      • Create delta indexes for the specified InfoProviders. This can usually be done through the Data Warehousing Workbench (transaction RSA1) or through the relevant administration transactions.
    2. Monitor and Optimize:

      • After creating the delta indexes, monitor the performance of the InfoProviders to ensure that the changes have had a positive impact.
      • Regularly check for any further suggestions from the system regarding index optimization.
    3. Review Data Load Processes:

      • Ensure that your data load processes are correctly configured to utilize delta loads where applicable. This can help in maintaining the efficiency of the data retrieval.
    4. Consult Documentation:

      • Refer to SAP documentation or notes related to your specific version of SAP BW and the TREX search engine for any additional recommendations or best practices regarding index management.

    Related Information:

    • TREX: TREX (Text Retrieval and Extraction) is a search engine used in SAP for full-text search capabilities and is often integrated with SAP BW for enhanced data retrieval.
    • Delta Load: A delta load refers to the process of loading only the data that has changed since the last load, rather than reloading the entire dataset. This is crucial for performance in data warehousing environments.
    • SAP Notes: Check SAP Notes for any known issues or additional guidance related to the RSD_TREX513 error message. You can search for relevant notes in the SAP Support Portal.

By following these steps, you should be able to address the RSD_TREX513 error and improve the performance of your SAP BW system.
