  • Message class: RSCV - Analysis of BW objects (InfoCubes...)

  • Message number: 840

  • Message text: Consistency between InfoCube partitions and SAP administration

  • Show details Hide details
  • Description
The partitioning of InfoCube fact tables in the database is compared to
the InfoCube's partitioning settings in the Administrator Workbench
(transaction RSA1 -> Display InfoCube. In the Extras menu, choose DB
    Performance -> Partitioning).

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

The test checks the following information:
Should the InfoCube be partitioned according to the partitioning
settings in the Administrator Workbench? Are the fact tables in the
    database partitioned appropriately?
If the fact tables should be partitioned:
Is there a column for the partitioning characteristic in each fact
    table?
Is the partitioning key in each fact table correct?
Is there a partition for each request in the F fact table?
Are there partitions in the E fact table for the time range configured
in the InfoCube's partitioning settings? Is the number of partitions
correct? Are the partition boundaries correct?
    Are there unnecessary partitions?
If the InfoCube has aggregates, are they correctly partitioned or not
    partitioned?
    Notes
Refer to SAP Note 815186 for more information about how InfoCube fact
tables are partitioned in the DB2 for IBM i database.
Refer to SAP Note 1008833 for more information about how the

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message RSCV840 - Consistency between InfoCube partitions and SAP administration ?

The SAP error message RSCV840 indicates a consistency issue between the InfoCube partitions and the SAP administration settings. This typically occurs in the context of SAP BW (Business Warehouse) when there are discrepancies between the defined partitions of an InfoCube and the actual data or metadata stored in the system.

    Cause:

    1. Partition Mismatch: The partitions defined in the InfoCube do not match the actual data partitions in the database. This can happen due to manual changes, data loading issues, or inconsistencies during data archiving or deletion processes.
    2. Metadata Changes: Changes made to the InfoCube structure or settings without corresponding updates to the partitions can lead to inconsistencies.
    3. Data Load Failures: If data loads fail or are interrupted, it may leave the InfoCube in an inconsistent state.
    4. System Upgrades or Migrations: Upgrading or migrating the system can sometimes lead to inconsistencies if not all components are updated correctly.

    Solution:

    1. Check Partition Settings: Verify the partition settings in the InfoCube and ensure they match the actual partitions in the database. You can do this through the SAP BW administration interface.
    2. Rebuild Partitions: If discrepancies are found, you may need to rebuild the partitions. This can often be done through the InfoCube maintenance transactions in SAP BW.
    3. Data Consistency Check: Run consistency checks on the InfoCube to identify and resolve any issues. This can be done using transaction codes like RSA1 (Data Warehousing Workbench) and navigating to the InfoCube.
    4. Repair or Delete Partitions: If certain partitions are corrupted or not needed, consider repairing or deleting them. Be cautious with this step, as it may lead to data loss if not handled properly.
    5. Consult SAP Notes: Check for any relevant SAP Notes that may address this specific error or provide guidance on resolving partition inconsistencies.
    6. System Logs: Review system logs for any additional error messages or warnings that could provide more context on the issue.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes such as RSA1, RSCUBE, and RSCV for managing InfoCubes and partitions.
    • SAP BW Documentation: Refer to SAP BW documentation for best practices on managing InfoCubes and partitions.
    • SAP Community: Engage with the SAP Community forums for insights and solutions shared by other users who may have encountered similar issues.
