How To Fix RS2HANA_VIEW096 - External SAP HANA view: Validity objects are ignored for non-cumulatives

SAP Error Message - Details

  • Message type: E = Error

  • Message class: RS2HANA_VIEW - HANA Views for BW Objects

  • Message number: 096

  • Message text: External SAP HANA view: Validity objects are ignored for non-cumulatives

  • Show details Hide details
  • What causes this issue?

For InfoProviders with non-cumulative key figures, validity slices are
maintained automatically by the system. These can also be maintained
    manually in transaction RSDV however.

    System Response

The BW Analytic Engine takes account of the validity slices. The
external SAP HANA view ignores them. The validity slice is implicitly
extended to the global filter set on the time characteristics of the
query. This can lead to a different result set if data is selected
    outside of the validity slice.

    How to fix this error?

The global filter set on the time characteristic should reflect the
    validity slices of the InfoProvider.
Extend the validity slice of the InfoProvider.
To analyze this issue, select 0INFOPROV and the most granular time
characteristic of the external SAP HANA view. If there is an unexpected
value for a non-cumulative key figure, check if the time is outside the
    validity slice.

    Procedure for System Administrators

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

Smart SAP Assistant

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message RS2HANA_VIEW096 - External SAP HANA view: Validity objects are ignored for non-cumulatives ?

The SAP error message RS2HANA_VIEW096 indicates that there is an issue related to the handling of validity objects in an external SAP HANA view, specifically when dealing with non-cumulative data. This error typically arises in the context of SAP BW (Business Warehouse) when trying to create or use a HANA view that includes non-cumulative key figures.

    Cause:

The error occurs because non-cumulative key figures (such as stock levels or balances) do not support validity periods in the same way that cumulative key figures (like sales or revenue) do. In SAP BW, validity objects are used to define the time periods during which certain data is valid. However, for non-cumulative key figures, the concept of validity is not applicable, leading to the error message.

    Solution:

To resolve this error, you can consider the following approaches:

    1. Review Key Figures: Check the key figures in your HANA view. If you are using non-cumulative key figures, ensure that you are not trying to apply validity objects to them. You may need to adjust your data model or the way you are querying the data.

    2. Adjust the Query: If you are using a query that includes non-cumulative key figures, try to modify the query to exclude any validity objects or filters that are not applicable to non-cumulative data.

    3. Data Model Changes: If necessary, consider redesigning your data model to separate cumulative and non-cumulative key figures, ensuring that validity objects are only applied where appropriate.

    4. Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or notes related to HANA views and BW queries to understand the limitations and best practices for handling non-cumulative key figures.

    5. SAP Support: If the issue persists and you cannot find a resolution, consider reaching out to SAP support for further assistance. They may provide specific guidance based on your system configuration and the context of the error.

    Related Information:

    • Non-Cumulative Key Figures: These are measures that do not accumulate over time, such as inventory levels or balances. They are typically updated based on transactions rather than summed over a period.
    • Cumulative Key Figures: These are measures that accumulate over time, such as total sales or revenue, and can be aggregated over different time periods.
    • SAP BW on HANA: When using SAP BW on HANA, it is important to understand how HANA views interact with BW queries and the implications for data modeling.

By addressing the underlying cause of the error and ensuring that your data model and queries are appropriately configured, you should be able to resolve the RS2HANA_VIEW096 error.
