Message number: 227
Message text: Remaining node of hierarchy &1 is larger than the hierarchy
The hierarchy &V1& for characteristic &V2& contains &V3& entries in the
internal display format. Of these, the system automatically hangs &V4&
leaves under the <ZK>Not Assigned</> node.
The internal format uses a lot of memory both on the database and in the
main memory.
Check whether you really need the <ZK>Not Assigned</> node. In the
query, this node indicates the difference between the value of the
overall result and the result at the root node. If this value is not
required, suppress the <ZK>Not Assigned</> node. You do this is
hierarchy maintenance by choosing <LS>Goto -> Hierarchy Attributes ->
Suppressing Nodes </><ZK><LS>Not Assigned</></>.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

- Remaining node of hierarchy &1 is larger than the hierarchy ?The SAP error message RH227 indicates that there is a discrepancy in the hierarchy structure of a particular organizational unit or node. Specifically, it means that the remaining node of the hierarchy is larger than the hierarchy itself, which typically suggests that there is an inconsistency in the data or configuration of the hierarchy.
Cause:
- Data Inconsistency: The hierarchy data may have been altered incorrectly, leading to a situation where the remaining node exceeds the defined limits of the hierarchy.
- Incorrect Configuration: The hierarchy might not be configured properly, which can happen if nodes are added or removed without proper adjustments to the hierarchy structure.
- Master Data Issues: There may be issues with the master data associated with the nodes in the hierarchy, such as incorrect relationships or attributes.
- Transport Issues: If the hierarchy was transported from one system to another, there might have been issues during the transport process that led to inconsistencies.
Solution:
- Check Hierarchy Configuration: Review the configuration of the hierarchy in the relevant SAP module (e.g., HR, Finance). Ensure that all nodes are correctly defined and that their relationships are valid.
- Validate Master Data: Check the master data associated with the nodes in the hierarchy. Ensure that all relevant attributes and relationships are correctly set up.
- Rebuild the Hierarchy: If the hierarchy is significantly corrupted, it may be necessary to rebuild it from scratch. This involves deleting the existing hierarchy and creating a new one with the correct structure.
- Use Transaction Codes: Utilize relevant transaction codes (e.g., OOCU for organizational units) to analyze and correct the hierarchy structure.
- Consult SAP Notes: Check the SAP Support Portal for any relevant notes or patches that may address this specific error message.
- Testing: After making changes, perform thorough testing to ensure that the hierarchy functions as expected and that the error does not reoccur.
