  • What causes this issue?

In the filter area, the query contains the characteristic '&V1&'
    without any restriction.
Filter characteristics without any restrictions, like unavailable
characteristics, are evaluated in the filter with the semantic
<ZK>all values/>. If you do not restrict the characteristic '&V1&', it
will behave as if there were no filter.

This is a warning to inform you of the status.

query is saved. If you open the query later, the characteristic
&V1&' will no longer be in the filter.

Restrict characteristic '&V1&' in the filter. You can also delete this
    characteristic.
By double clicking on the message in the error list, you can navigate to

Smart SAP Assistant

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message R9E003 - Restrict characteristic '&1' in the filter; otherwise it will be ignored ?

The SAP error message R9E003 indicates that a characteristic in a query or report is not being restricted properly in the filter. This typically occurs in the context of SAP BW (Business Warehouse) or SAP BI (Business Intelligence) when you are trying to execute a query that includes characteristics that need to be filtered for the query to return meaningful results.

    Cause:

    The error arises when:

    1. A characteristic is included in the query but is not restricted in the filter. This means that the system does not know how to handle the characteristic without specific filter criteria.
    2. The characteristic is not relevant for the current context of the query, leading to potential confusion in the data retrieval process.

    Solution:

To resolve the R9E003 error, you can take the following steps:

    1. Check the Query Definition:

      • Open the query in the Query Designer.
      • Look for the characteristic mentioned in the error message (represented as &1).
      • Ensure that this characteristic is included in the filter section of the query.
    2. Add a Filter:

      • If the characteristic is not restricted, add a filter for it. You can do this by dragging the characteristic into the filter area and specifying the values you want to restrict it to.
    3. Review the Characteristic's Relevance:

      • If the characteristic is not necessary for the query, consider removing it from the query definition altogether.
    4. Validate the Query:

      • After making changes, validate the query to ensure that there are no other issues.
      • Execute the query to check if the error persists.
    5. Check for Dependencies:

      • Sometimes, characteristics may have dependencies on other characteristics. Ensure that all related characteristics are properly defined and filtered.

    Related Information:

    • SAP BW/BI Documentation: Refer to the official SAP documentation for more details on query design and characteristics.
    • SAP Community: Engage with the SAP Community forums for insights from other users who may have encountered similar issues.
    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes such as RSRT (for executing queries) and RSA1 (for data modeling) to troubleshoot further.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the R9E003 error and ensure that your query runs successfully.
