  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message R7I161 - &1 entered as most granular time characteristic but &2 is correct ?

The SAP error message R7I161 indicates a discrepancy in the time characteristics used in a report or query. Specifically, it suggests that the most granular time characteristic (e.g., day, month, year) entered does not match the expected or correct time characteristic for the data being processed.

    Cause:

    1. Incorrect Time Characteristic: The user has selected a time characteristic that is more granular than what is allowed or expected for the data set. For example, if the data is aggregated at the month level, but the user is trying to analyze it at the day level, this error will occur.
    2. Data Model Configuration: The data model or InfoProvider may be configured to expect a specific level of granularity, and the input does not align with that configuration.
    3. Query Design: The query or report may have been designed with certain assumptions about the time characteristics, and the user’s input does not meet those assumptions.

    Solution:

    1. Check Time Characteristics: Review the time characteristics available in the report or query. Ensure that the most granular time characteristic you are trying to use is appropriate for the data being analyzed.
    2. Adjust Query Settings: If you are using a query, check the settings and ensure that the time characteristics are set correctly. You may need to modify the query to align with the data model.
    3. Consult Documentation: Refer to the documentation for the specific report or query to understand the expected time characteristics and adjust your input accordingly.
    4. Data Aggregation: If you need to analyze data at a more granular level, consider whether the data can be aggregated or if you need to change the underlying data model to support the desired granularity.

    Related Information:
