  • Message class: R7I - InfoProvider

  • Message number: 051

  • Message text: MultiCubes can be maintained using MultiProvider transaction from Rel 3.0

  • Show details Hide details
  • What causes this issue?

In Release BW 3.0A, the concept <ZH>MultiCubes has been extended to the
    concept MultiProvider</>.
<ZH>MultiCubes </>exclusively contain InfoCubes whose data was grouped
together in the MultiObject by union operation. This concept has now
been extended so that additional BW objects such as DataStore objects
and InfoObjects can also enter the MultiObject (data merging through
union operation has remained the same). The name <ZH>MultiCube</> was no
longer suitable here and the more generalized term <ZH>MultiProvider is
now used</>. To classify the BW Objects, an individual BW TLOGO Object
<ZH>MultiProvider</> was created from a special InfoCube type (for
example, an InfoCube subset). This new BW LOGO object can be defined
using a newly created, separate maintenance transaction. This looks
exactly the same as the previous transaction from the user interface.

    System Response

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

    How to fix this error?

Maintain the previous MultiCube using the maintenance transaction for
MultiProvider. No particular conversions or other actions are required
to do this. The object will no longer appear as an InfoCube but as a
MultiProvider instead. In other words, another transaction is only
started after object maintenance is initialized.
MultiProviders (like MultiCubes previously) can also consist exclusively
of standard InfoCubes. All queries defined for MultiCubes are therefore
    still valid.

Smart SAP Assistant

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message R7I051 - MultiCubes can be maintained using MultiProvider transaction from Rel 3.0 ?

The SAP error message R7I051 indicates that you are trying to maintain MultiCubes directly, which is not allowed in the version you are using (from Release 3.0). Instead, you should use the MultiProvider transaction to manage MultiCubes.

    Cause:

The error occurs because the system is enforcing a restriction on how MultiCubes can be maintained. In earlier versions of SAP BW (Business Warehouse), direct maintenance of MultiCubes was not supported, and users are required to use the MultiProvider transaction for this purpose.

    Solution:

To resolve this error, follow these steps:

    1. Use the MultiProvider Transaction:

      • Instead of trying to maintain the MultiCube directly, navigate to the MultiProvider transaction (transaction code: RSA1).
      • In the Data Warehousing Workbench, go to the "InfoProviders" section.
      • Select the MultiProvider you want to work with and make the necessary changes there.
    2. Check Documentation:

      • Review the SAP documentation or help files related to MultiProviders and MultiCubes for your specific version to understand the limitations and best practices.
    3. Upgrade Considerations:

      • If you are using an older version of SAP BW, consider upgrading to a newer version where more features and functionalities may be available, including improved handling of MultiCubes and MultiProviders.

    Related Information:

    • MultiProvider: A MultiProvider is a logical view that allows you to combine data from multiple InfoProviders (like InfoCubes, DataStore Objects, etc.) into a single view for reporting purposes.
    • MultiCube: A MultiCube is a special type of InfoCube that allows you to access data from multiple InfoCubes as if they were a single InfoCube.
    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes such as RSA1 (Data Warehousing Workbench) and others that may assist in managing InfoProviders.

By following these steps and understanding the structure of your SAP BW environment, you should be able to effectively manage your MultiCubes without encountering the R7I051 error.
