  • Show details Hide details
  • What causes this issue?

The master inspection characteristic references a class characteristic
with interval limits. When the master inspection characteristic is
created, the class characteristic's lower interval limit is copied into
the master inspection characteristic's lower specification limit as a
system default value. The same applies to the upper interval limit.
You have entered a specification limit, however, that differs from the
    class characteristic's interval limit.
    This has the following effect:
If you use the master inspection characteristic in a task list and you
inspect <ZH>without</> reference to a material specification, the
specification limits entered in the master inspection characteristic
are used as the specification limits.
If you use the master inspection characteristic in a task list and you
inspect <ZH>with</> reference to a material specification, the class
characteristic's interval limits are used as the specification limits.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message QS090 - Specification limit for the class char. differs from interval limit ?

The SAP error message QS090 indicates that there is a discrepancy between the specification limits defined for a characteristic in a quality management (QM) class and the interval limits that are set for that characteristic. This typically occurs in the context of quality inspections and control charts where the defined limits for a characteristic do not align with the expected or permissible limits.

    Cause:

    1. Mismatch in Limits: The specification limits for the characteristic (e.g., upper and lower limits) do not match the interval limits defined in the system.
    2. Incorrect Configuration: The characteristic may have been incorrectly configured in the master data or during the creation of the inspection plan.
    3. Data Entry Errors: Manual entry errors when defining the limits can lead to inconsistencies.
    4. Changes in Specifications: If the specifications were updated but the corresponding limits were not adjusted, this can lead to discrepancies.

    Solution:

    1. Review Characteristic Settings:

      • Go to the characteristic settings in the inspection plan or master data.
      • Check the specification limits and interval limits for the characteristic in question.
    2. Adjust Limits:

      • If the specification limits are incorrect, update them to match the interval limits.
      • Conversely, if the interval limits are incorrect, adjust them to align with the specification limits.
    3. Consistency Check:

      • Perform a consistency check on the inspection plan or the quality management settings to ensure that all related data is aligned.
    4. Documentation:

      • Document any changes made for future reference and to maintain a clear audit trail.
    5. Testing:

      • After making adjustments, conduct a test inspection to ensure that the error message no longer appears and that the system behaves as expected.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: You may need to use transaction codes like QDP1 (for defining characteristics) or QP01 (for creating inspection plans) to access and modify the relevant settings.
    • Quality Management Module: Familiarity with the QM module in SAP is essential for understanding how characteristics, specifications, and limits interact.
    • SAP Notes: Check SAP Notes for any known issues or patches related to this error message, as there may be specific fixes or recommendations provided by SAP.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the QS090 error and ensure that your quality management processes run smoothly.
