SAP Error Message - Details

  • Message type: E = Error

  • Message class: PPEXPL_CMP - Messages for Explosion of Product Structures

  • Message number: 011

  • Message text: Change state &1 of variant &2 has configurable phantom assembly

  • Show details Hide details
  • What causes this issue?

During the explosion of a product structure, the system determined the
change state &V1& of variant &V2&.
In this change state, an access variant of a configurable product
structure is specified as phantom assembly. The system does not support
    this modelling.

    System Response

The system issues an error message, does not explode the change state
&V1& of variant &V2& any further, and continues with the explosion of
    other objects.

    How to fix this error?

Delete the phantom assembly in change state &V1& of variant &V2& in the
back-end system in Integrated Product and Process Engineering (iPPE).
You have the following options for modelling the split of the variant
    change state:
You use an assembly group as phantom assembly.
You enter a material in the variant change state for which an access
objects exists that refers to a variant of another product structure
with the correct splitting of the material.
You build relationships from the associated node to other nodes that
model the splitting of the variant.

    Procedure for System Administrators

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message PPEXPL_CMP011 - Change state &1 of variant &2 has configurable phantom assembly ?

The SAP error message PPEXPL_CMP011 indicates that there is an issue with a configurable phantom assembly when trying to change the state of a variant. This error typically arises in the context of Production Planning and Control (PP) or Variant Configuration (VC) in SAP.

    Cause:

The error occurs when you attempt to change the state of a variant that is associated with a configurable phantom assembly. A phantom assembly is a type of assembly that is not physically built but is used in the bill of materials (BOM) for planning purposes. The system does not allow certain operations on these phantom assemblies, especially if they are configured in a way that conflicts with the change you are trying to make.

    Possible Causes:

    1. Configuration Issues: The variant configuration might not be set up correctly, leading to conflicts when trying to change the state.
    2. Phantom Assembly Restrictions: The system has restrictions on how phantom assemblies can be manipulated, especially in terms of state changes.
    3. Dependencies: There may be dependencies or links to other components or assemblies that prevent the change from being executed.

    Solution:

To resolve the error, consider the following steps:

    1. Check Configuration: Review the configuration settings for the variant and the phantom assembly. Ensure that all settings are correct and that there are no inconsistencies.

    2. Review BOM: Check the Bill of Materials (BOM) for the phantom assembly. Ensure that it is correctly defined and that there are no issues with the components listed.

    3. State Change Restrictions: Understand the restrictions related to state changes for phantom assemblies. You may need to consult SAP documentation or your system administrator to understand what changes are permissible.

    4. Use Transaction Codes: Utilize relevant transaction codes (like CS03 for BOM display, CU50 for configuration, etc.) to analyze the configuration and BOM details.

    5. Consult SAP Notes: Look for any SAP Notes related to this error message. SAP frequently updates its knowledge base with solutions for known issues.

    6. Testing: If possible, test the changes in a development or quality assurance environment before applying them in production.

    7. Contact SAP Support: If the issue persists and you cannot find a resolution, consider reaching out to SAP support for assistance.

    Related Information:

    • Phantom Assemblies: Understand the concept of phantom assemblies in SAP and how they are used in production planning.
    • Variant Configuration: Familiarize yourself with the principles of variant configuration in SAP, including how to manage and manipulate configurable materials.
    • SAP Documentation: Refer to the official SAP Help Portal for detailed documentation on Production Planning and Variant Configuration.
