How To Fix PPECMP602 - Material &1 in &2 creates recursion via follow-up material in BOM

SAP Error Message - Details

  • Message type: E = Error

  • Message class: PPECMP - Messages for iPPE CMP Application (Components)

  • Message number: 602

  • Message text: Material &1 in &2 creates recursion via follow-up material in BOM

  • Show details Hide details
  • What causes this issue?

    Material &V1& of &V2& creates a recursion involving a follow-up material
of a bill of material component.
The header material of this bill of material is &V1&, the component is
    &V3&, the follow-up material is &V4&.
The entered material &V1& is part of a bill of material. If you add this
material to the product structure in &V2&, the product structure becomes
    recursive, as follows:
Either directly by an immediately-assigned other node and its material
reference or by a different material in the bill of material
Or indirectly by a different material that exists in the product
structure and which likewise has to be part of a bill of material
In the present case, the recursion is caused by a follow-up material.

    System Response

The entered value (material nummer &V1&) is not saved in the changed
    structure object.

    How to fix this error?

Start the recursivity analysis with the specified materials (&V1& and
&V4&). Note when doing so that the recursion is caused by a follow-up
material (&V4&). The original error can also lie with other materials in
the product structure that exist in bills of material and have follow-up
    materials.

    Procedure for System Administrators

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message PPECMP602 - Material &1 in &2 creates recursion via follow-up material in BOM ?

The SAP error message PPECMP602 indicates that there is a recursion issue in the Bill of Materials (BOM) for a material. Specifically, it means that the material you are trying to process (denoted as &1) is creating a recursive relationship through a follow-up material (denoted as &2). This typically occurs when a material is defined in such a way that it references itself, either directly or indirectly, through its BOM structure.

    Cause:

    1. Recursive BOM Structure: The most common cause of this error is that the BOM for the material includes a follow-up material that eventually leads back to the original material, creating a loop.
    2. Incorrect BOM Configuration: There may be an incorrect configuration in the BOM where materials are not properly defined, leading to unintended recursive relationships.
    3. Data Entry Errors: Manual errors during BOM creation or modification can lead to incorrect references.

    Solution:

    1. Review the BOM: Check the BOM for the material in question. Look for any follow-up materials that reference the original material or any materials that lead back to it.
    2. Correct the BOM Structure: If you find a recursive relationship, you will need to modify the BOM to eliminate the recursion. This may involve removing or changing the follow-up material or restructuring the BOM.
    3. Use BOM Analysis Tools: Utilize SAP tools or reports that can help analyze BOM structures for recursion issues. This can help identify problematic areas more quickly.
    4. Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or guidelines on BOM creation and management to ensure that you are following best practices.
    5. Testing: After making changes, test the BOM to ensure that the error no longer occurs and that the BOM functions as intended.

    Related Information:

    • BOM Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes such as CS01 (Create BOM), CS02 (Change BOM), and CS03 (Display BOM) to manage BOMs effectively.
    • SAP Notes: Check for any SAP Notes related to BOM recursion issues, as there may be specific patches or updates that address known problems.
    • Training and Support: If you are unsure about how to resolve the issue, consider reaching out to your SAP support team or consulting with an SAP expert who can provide guidance.

By addressing the recursive relationship in the BOM, you should be able to resolve the PPECMP602 error and ensure that your material can be processed correctly.
