How To Fix PMRP_TRANSFER012 - Maximum number &1 of iteration steps exceeded for &2 &3 &4

SAP Error Message - Details

  • Message type: E = Error

  • Message class: PMRP_TRANSFER - Messages for PMRP_TRANSFER

  • Message number: 012

  • Message text: Maximum number &1 of iteration steps exceeded for &2 &3 &4

  • Show details Hide details
  • What causes this issue?

The number of iteration steps in BOM processing exceeded the defined
    maximum.

    System Response

The iteration is terminated, and the message is raised.

    How to fix this error?

If the number of iterations exceeds the defined maximum number of steps,
there is one of the following reasons:
There is a recursion in the data
The selection range is too big
In the second case please limit the selection conditions further, so
that the error does not occur any more.
In most cases, the flag for stock transfer is marked and the considered
plants and work centers to be included from stock transfer are too
large, e.g. since the considered plants range is empty, which means all
plants in the system are taken. Then you need to narrow down these
    parameters.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message PMRP_TRANSFER012 - Maximum number &1 of iteration steps exceeded for &2 &3 &4 ?

The SAP error message PMRP_TRANSFER012 indicates that the maximum number of iteration steps has been exceeded during a planning run in the SAP system, specifically in the context of the Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling (PP/DS) or similar modules. This error typically occurs when the system is unable to converge to a solution within the defined number of iterations, which can be due to various reasons such as data inconsistencies, configuration issues, or overly complex planning scenarios.

    Causes:

    1. Data Issues: Inconsistent or incorrect master data (e.g., material master, BOM, routing) can lead to planning failures.
    2. Configuration Problems: Incorrect settings in the planning parameters or planning strategy can cause the algorithm to struggle to find a solution.
    3. Complex Planning Scenarios: Highly complex scenarios with many constraints or dependencies may require more iterations than allowed.
    4. Resource Constraints: Limited capacity or resource availability can lead to planning conflicts that prevent convergence.
    5. Parameter Settings: The maximum number of iterations is defined in the planning parameters, and it may be set too low for the complexity of the planning run.

    Solutions:

    1. Check Master Data: Verify that all relevant master data (materials, BOMs, routings, etc.) is correct and complete.
    2. Review Planning Parameters: Increase the maximum number of iterations allowed in the planning parameters. This can usually be done in the configuration settings of the planning run.
    3. Simplify the Planning Scenario: If possible, simplify the planning scenario by reducing the number of constraints or dependencies.
    4. Analyze Resource Availability: Ensure that resources are adequately available and that there are no bottlenecks that could be causing the planning to fail.
    5. Run Planning in Smaller Batches: If the planning run is too large, consider breaking it down into smaller batches to reduce complexity.
    6. Consult SAP Notes: Check for any relevant SAP Notes or updates that may address known issues related to this error message.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: You may need to use transaction codes like /SAPAPO/MC90 for planning runs or /SAPAPO/DP for demand planning to access relevant settings.
    • SAP Help Documentation: Refer to the official SAP documentation for detailed information on planning parameters and configuration settings.
    • SAP Community: Engage with the SAP Community forums for insights from other users who may have encountered similar issues.

If the problem persists after trying the above solutions, it may be beneficial to involve your SAP Basis or technical team for further analysis, or to reach out to SAP support for assistance.
