  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message PMEVC_UI123 - Maximum of groups with type "Tab" reached; group &1 gets "Pushbutton" ?

The SAP error message PMEVC_UI123 indicates that the maximum number of tab groups has been reached in a particular user interface (UI) context. This typically occurs in SAP applications that utilize the Web Dynpro or Fiori frameworks, where there is a limit to the number of tab groups that can be created in a single view or component.

    Cause:

    1. Exceeding Tab Limit: The error is triggered when the application attempts to create more tab groups than the allowed limit. Each tab group is designed to hold a set of related tabs, and exceeding this limit results in the system defaulting to a pushbutton instead of creating a new tab.
    2. Configuration Issues: Sometimes, the configuration of the UI might not be optimized, leading to unnecessary tab groups being created.
    3. Design Flaw: The design of the application might not adhere to best practices, resulting in an excessive number of tabs being created.

    Solution:

    1. Review Tab Usage: Analyze the UI design to determine if all the tab groups are necessary. Consider consolidating related tabs into fewer groups.
    2. Optimize UI Design: If possible, redesign the UI to use fewer tab groups. This may involve combining related functionalities into a single tab or using alternative UI elements (like dropdowns or accordions) to organize content.
    3. Check Configuration: Review the configuration settings of the application to ensure that it is set up correctly and efficiently.
    4. Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or guidelines regarding the maximum number of tab groups allowed in the specific context you are working with.
    5. Contact SAP Support: If the issue persists and you cannot find a resolution, consider reaching out to SAP support for assistance. They may provide insights specific to your version or implementation.
