  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message PK486 - Storage type &1 in warehouse number &2 does not allow mixed storage ?

The SAP error message PK486 indicates that the storage type specified in the warehouse number does not allow mixed storage. This means that the system is trying to place different types of materials or products in the same storage bin, which is not permitted for that particular storage type.

    Cause:

    1. Storage Type Configuration: The storage type in question has been configured to disallow mixed storage. This is often done for specific reasons, such as maintaining inventory accuracy, ensuring product compatibility, or adhering to safety regulations.
    2. Material Types: The materials being handled may belong to different categories or types that are not allowed to be stored together in the same storage type.
    3. Warehouse Management Settings: The settings in the Warehouse Management (WM) module may not permit mixed storage for the specified storage type.

    Solution:

    1. Check Storage Type Configuration:

      • Go to the configuration settings for the storage type in the SAP system (Transaction code: SPRO).
      • Navigate to the Warehouse Management settings and check the configuration for the specific storage type.
      • If mixed storage is required, you may need to change the settings to allow it. This can be done by adjusting the "Mixed Storage" option in the storage type configuration.
    2. Review Material Types:

      • Ensure that the materials you are trying to store are compatible with each other and with the storage type.
      • If necessary, consider using a different storage type that allows mixed storage for the materials in question.
    3. Use Different Storage Bins:

      • If mixed storage is not allowed for the storage type, you may need to allocate different storage bins for the different materials.
      • This can be done by creating separate storage bins for each material type or category.
    4. Consult with Warehouse Management Team:

      • If you are unsure about the configuration or the implications of changing mixed storage settings, consult with your warehouse management or logistics team for guidance.
