  • Show details Hide details
  • What causes this issue?

The new superpackage &V1& cannot be assigned due to switches with
    varying assignments.
Package &V2& is not assigned to any switch.
Package &V1& is assigned to switch &V3&.
If switch &V3& is deactivated, a change to the superpackage would result
in deactivation of all switchable objects of the current package &V4& as
    well as its subpackages.
This is a completely incompatible change that is not supported,
particularly when transporting the package change.
Using the transaction <DS:TRAN.SFW_BROWSER>Switch Framework Browser</>,
you can display the switched objects. Use the search function in the
transaction to locate the package or the switch.

    System Response

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

    How to fix this error?

If it is absolutely imperative that the superpackage assignment be
changed, perform the following changes first before you execute this new
    assignment:
Change switch &V3& in such a way that it references package &V4&, which
    is to be reassigned.
If switch &V3& cannot be changed: Define a new switch that references
package &V4&. Enter for this switch all the business functions that
    switch &V3& depends on.
If there are no switchable objects in the package hierarchy yet, the
change to the superpackage is non-critical and the superpackage can be
changed by a user with structure package authorization.

The SAP error message PAK197 indicates that there is an issue with the assignment of switches in a superpackage. This typically occurs when you are trying to create or modify a superpackage that contains components (like packages or objects) that have different switch assignments. A switch in SAP refers to a configuration setting that can be turned on or off, and it is often used to control the behavior of certain features or functionalities.

    Cause:

    The error arises when:

    1. The superpackage includes components that have different switch settings or assignments.
    2. The components may be from different development or transport layers that are not compatible with each other.
    3. There may be inconsistencies in the configuration of the switches across the components included in the superpackage.

    Solution:

To resolve the PAK197 error, you can follow these steps:

    1. Check Switch Assignments: Review the switch assignments for all components included in the superpackage. Ensure that they are consistent and compatible. You can do this by:

      • Navigating to the relevant transaction codes (like SE80 or SE11) to check the switch settings for each component.
      • Identifying any discrepancies in the switch assignments.
    2. Modify the Superpackage: If you find that certain components have incompatible switch settings, you may need to:

      • Remove the components with differing switch assignments from the superpackage.
      • Create a new superpackage that only includes components with the same switch settings.
    3. Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or notes related to superpackages and switch management. This can provide insights into best practices and any known issues.

    4. Transport Layer Considerations: Ensure that all components are from the same transport layer or development environment, as differences here can also lead to switch assignment issues.

    5. Testing: After making the necessary adjustments, test the superpackage creation or modification again to ensure that the error is resolved.
