  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message OT816 - Line &1: Equivalence condition must only have prerequisite type 'P' ?

The SAP error message OT816 indicates that there is an issue with the equivalence condition in a condition table, specifically that the prerequisite type must be 'P' (which stands for "prerequisite"). This error typically arises in the context of pricing conditions or condition records in SAP, particularly when working with condition types in the pricing procedure.

    Cause:

The error occurs when you attempt to define an equivalence condition that does not meet the requirement of having a prerequisite type of 'P'. This can happen if:

    • The equivalence condition is incorrectly configured.
    • The prerequisite type is set to something other than 'P', such as 'A' (which stands for "alternative") or any other type that is not allowed for equivalence conditions.

    Solution:

To resolve this error, you can follow these steps:

    1. Check the Condition Table:

      • Go to the condition table where the error is occurring. You can do this through transaction codes like VK11 (Create Condition) or VK12 (Change Condition).
    2. Review the Equivalence Condition:

      • Look for the equivalence condition that is causing the error. Ensure that it is set up correctly and that the prerequisite type is indeed set to 'P'.
    3. Modify the Prerequisite Type:

      • If the prerequisite type is not 'P', change it to 'P'. This can usually be done in the configuration settings for the condition type or equivalence condition.
    4. Check Configuration Settings:

      • If you are unsure about how to change the prerequisite type, you may need to consult with your SAP configuration team or refer to the SAP documentation for guidance on setting up equivalence conditions correctly.
    5. Test the Changes:

      • After making the necessary changes, test the condition again to ensure that the error has been resolved.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes such as VK11, VK12, VK31, and VK32 for managing condition records.
    • SAP Documentation: Refer to SAP Help documentation for detailed information on pricing procedures and condition types.
    • SAP Notes: Check for any relevant SAP Notes that may address specific issues related to equivalence conditions and prerequisites.

If the problem persists after following these steps, it may be beneficial to consult with an SAP expert or reach out to SAP support for further assistance.
