  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message OM479 - You cannot delete as process category &1 is assigned to category &2 ?

The SAP error message OM479 indicates that you are trying to delete a process category that is currently assigned to another category. This is a common issue in SAP when dealing with process categories in the context of production planning or other related modules.

    Cause:

The error occurs because the process category you are attempting to delete is still linked to another category. In SAP, certain configurations and settings are interdependent, and deleting a category that is in use can lead to inconsistencies in the system.

    Solution:

To resolve this error, you need to follow these steps:

    1. Identify Dependencies: Determine where the process category (indicated by &1) is being used. You can do this by checking the configuration settings in the relevant module (e.g., Production Planning, Quality Management).

    2. Remove Assignments: Before you can delete the process category, you must first remove any assignments or links to it. This may involve:

      • Navigating to the relevant configuration settings (e.g., SPRO) and finding where the process category is assigned.
      • Unassigning the process category from the category it is linked to (indicated by &2).
    3. Delete the Process Category: Once all assignments have been removed, you can attempt to delete the process category again.

    4. Check for Other Dependencies: If the error persists, ensure that there are no other dependencies or references to the process category in other areas of the system.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: You may need to use transaction codes like SPRO (to access the configuration settings) or OMC1 (for process category settings) to navigate through the relevant settings.
    • Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or help files for detailed steps on managing process categories and understanding their relationships.
    • Testing: After making changes, it’s a good practice to test the system to ensure that everything is functioning as expected and that there are no residual issues.

If you continue to face challenges, consider reaching out to your SAP support team or consulting with an SAP expert who can provide more tailored assistance based on your specific configuration and setup.
